I have received many comments in regards to my last post, one of which I would like to share with you all. This person does not disagree with me or the creator of Cowspiracy that Animal Agriculture is indeed the largest cause of our environmental decline, but that it is not really the fault of the Environmental non-profit organizations whose job it is to protect our environment. The job of the people who were interviewed in the film is to raise money for the non-profit organization they work for, and (according to the argument being made below) they are not qualified to answer the questions being posed to them in the film. The biggest message at the end of Cowspiracy, and in the video below is that the only real answer to this is to lead a vegan lifestyle. Watch the video below and let me know your thoughts!
Cowspiracy is a very powerful film in exposing the facts about climate change in a tangible, accessible way. Even vegans are shocked by much of the information in the film. The film effectively and clearly communicates that animal agriculture is the #1 polluter and that the mainstream isn’t paying attention or purposely ignoring the facts.
I do agree that there is no point pinning hopes on environmental organizations to change their ways. There are many environmentalists who are critical of the “Big Greens”, the environmental organizations that have become more identified with fund-raising than with any tangible action. We cannot spend all our energy critiquing them. Instead, let’s spend our energy creating with a new way of being, and inviting others to join us.
Will it be enough? Who knows. We may well go extinct as a species for our lack of action.
This video has inspired me lately. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_4FrFqcOMCw
In it, Robert Goodland, (one of the two environmental researchers for the World Bank whose study offered the 51% figure), suggests an immediate solution.
Here, more info about the research by Robert Goodland & Jeff Anhang, stating that 51% of GhG emissions are caused by animal agriculture.
